DG NCCC Commends HOPE ALIVE FOUNDATION
The Director- General , National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Dr. Salisu Dahiru has commended the founder of Hope Alive Foundation and member of House of Representative, representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Contituency of Bunue State Mrs. Regina Akume for her interest and caring for the less Privileged, particularly Widows.
The DG received Hon. Regina Akume, wife of former Governor of Benue State and current Secretary to Government of the Federation on a Courtesy call in his office, noting that her show of love for the less Privileged through her pet project is unprecedented. This is even as he acknowledged that there are a number of areas that the NCCC can collaborate with the Hope Alive Foundation to bring further scour for the less privileged under her care.
Dr. Salisu who demonstrated deep knowledge and familiarity with Benue State and Gboko in particular during his growing up years, noted that Benue is known for abundance of fruits trees.
He said afforestation is one of the projects of the Council at the federal level, cascaded to states and local government areas which the Widows can participate in due course to boost their economic fortunes.
The Director General acknowledged the concern on the use of firewood for cooking by the women, sometimes with their children on their back, noting that the smoke inhaled by the women in one day cooking is equal to smoking twenty packets of cigarette.
He assured that as soon as the budgeting challenges currently being experienced were addressed, the Council would be happy to work with the Foundation in the identified areas of common interest.
Earlier, the founder of Hope Alive Foundation, Hon. Mrs. Regina Akume had Briefed the DG on activities of the Foundation, founded in 1996 together with her husband even before she became First lady of Benue State.
According to her the purpose of her visit was to intimate the DG on the plight of the less Privileged/ Widows under the care of the Foundation and to solicit support of the Council.
Director, of Agriculture, Environment &Water Resources, Hajiya Halima Bawa- Bwari in her intervention identified with the vision of the Foundation, stressing that the women could also explore the massive opportunities in the renewable energy sector, solar energy panel as well as participating in smart Agriculture.
